The A.L.F. charity was born from the strength and love
as parents, family, teachers, peers and strangers that knew and loved Alex.
We all learned, from a precious baby in his short life of 13 years, how to appreciate every day, to love and smile at the challenges this life has for us.
Alex was born with
Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome (HLHS), in simple terms, the left side of his heart did not function.
So it entails three open heart surgeries,
the first when he was only 3 days old, followed by the second at 6 months old and the final at 2 1/2 years old.
Of course that would have been great in a perfect world, but Alex was a learning curve for our medical field, challenging them every day.
He was born to help others and as a foundation it is our mission to support children by raising funds for the programs at The Barbara Bush Children's Hospital, Make a Wish Maine, Ronald McDonald House Charities of Maine and a scholarship through the Brunswick recreational Department, sending kids to summer camp.
Helping children in need, develop happy and healthy lives...
Physically, Emotionally and Socially.
9th Annual Alex Labbe Mini Golf Sign up (docx)
DownloadAlex loved playing mini golf and every year on his birthday, mom and dad would take him out for a round of putt-putt and some ice cream.
Therefor it only made sense for our major, annual fundraiser, to be a game of mini golf!
The Alex Labbe Mini Golf Tournament.
Scheduled for June 25th this year, at 11:00 am to about 2:00 pm, at the office of Ray Labbe and Sons,
4 Highland Rd, Brunswick, Maine.

From Meaghan at The Barbara Bush Children's Hospital, Maine:
In 2019, the Labbe family chose to direct the funds raised by the Alex Labbe Mini Golf Classic
- an incredible $15,000!-
to support The Barbara Bush Children's Hospital's Bereavement Program. This generous gift made a huge impact, essentially funding the entire program for years! Some of the specific ways the donation was put to use include:
Grief and loss are not easy topics, and we are so touched that Judy and Peter though to honor The Barbara Bush Children's Hospital in this way. Thank you to everyone who is a part of Alex's Mini Golf Classic; your support helps families through their most difficult days, and supports our care teams as they grieve these losses as well. We are so grateful to you all!
From Judy and Peter Labbe:
We spent many days, weeks and sometimes even months in this amazing children's hospital.
The facility is top notch and always improving, hence a new intensive care unit. no longer are you mixed in with adults and a family member is allowed to stay in the room.
From having great toys in the play room, Mario Nintendo delivered to your room is a big plus, to surprises from the boo-boo box every time they draw blood or start an IV.
All those things help that innocent child. We raise money so that kids can still be kids.
From Alicia,
Development Director at RMHC:
We, at the Ronald McDonald House Charities of Maine are profoundly grateful for all those behind the scenes of the Alex Labbe Foundation who raised funds to support non-profit organizations like ours.
We have been fortunate to be a recipient of their generosity.
The impact of their support, means families find a home away from home at the Ronald McDonald House when they need to travel long distances for their child's medical care.
Providing not only a place to stay, but also meals and house keeping, so that families can rest easy and focus on one thing only, their little ones getting the care they need.
We treasure this partnership and the difference they have made to so many of our RMHC Maine families.
From Judy and Peter Labbe:
When Alex was born, we were fortunate to have this wonderful safe haven so close to the hospital.
To get a home cooked meal, to visit with other families or just to find quiet refueling time and a good nights sleep.
This house is so comfortable and family friendly and you are always just minutes away from your child.
We are so thankful and do our best to give back, so that other families can also have a little peace while struggling with their precious child's illness.
From Judy and Peter:
Make-a-wish foundation of America has fulfilled hundreds of thousands of wishes to children with critical illnesses, bringing them hope and life changing experiences.
Though Alex never made a wish, we wholeheartedly believe in this charity.
These kids have an opportunity of looking forward to something besides blood draws and hospital stays.
Alex would have benefited greatly from a wish, it would have been fun to see what he would have chosen, probably something with Mario!
From Judy and Peter:
This program was a true gift to our family.
Alex had disabilities and they took him under their care and let him be involved in their program.
He would come home a little dirty and full of smiles.
He loved and needed the social exposure and participating in all the activities the camp has to offer.
We are happy to promote other children, who would probably otherwise be home in front of their TV's or gaming systems, be social and active for four to eight weeks in the summer.
We are so glad our town has this great program and supports our 'Alex Labbe Summer Scholarship', which we donate to from the Foundation, thanks to our donors.
Your donation will give children in low income families the opportunity to participate in the Brunswick Recreation Summer Day Camp.
